Prescription

I've got my own religion
I make it up as I go along
I've got this friend
Who says he's been born again
And if he's right
we don't have long

My doctor gave me a prescription
With unlimited refills
Supposed to make all my days
exactly the same
I'm in perfect health
with my pink pill

They tell me I'm doing better now
I'm no longer a danger to myself
Besides the occasional side-effect
They tell me that I should
do pretty well

They've informed me that
I'm being released
And soon I'll be free to go home
Though they know
I've got no place to go
New budget cuts just won't allow

They tell me I'm doing better now
It's a game of think but do not tell
As long as I take my medicine
They tell me that I should
do pretty well.

Once I finish writing out
these thoughts to you
I'm gonna pack up all my personals
and go back to where we used
I wonder if you're
around there anymore

The voices in my head
The bad thoughts that I used to get
An occasional side effect
As long as I take my medicine

I'm doing
They say I'm doing well

My doctor gave me a prescription
